Portuguese government refuses to buy the Champions League matches because of the economic crisis



Expressed Information Minister Luis Marques Geddes opposition today to a government television channel broadcast buy Champions League soccer match against the rights of 18 million euros.

Justifying Geddes, during a cabinet meeting, opposition to this is that the "state funds should not be used to broadcast football matches."

And revealed Portuguese media that the channel (RTP), which is intended by the minister, was the "stealing" broadcast matches Champions League from the network (Prisa) Spanish, so it must pay 18 million euros for the purchase of broadcast rights for the next three copies, this includes 16 games and summaries.

The Information Minister stressed that the channel can not invest this amount in football under the "economic difficulties" experienced by Portugal.
