Real Madrid’s Luka Modric out for at least three months with thigh injury

The Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is expected to be sidelined for at least three months after picking up a thigh injury in Croatia’s 1-1 draw with Italy on Sunday.
The former Tottenham midfielder was substituted in the first-half of the Euro 2016 qualifier in Milan and could now miss up to 20 matches for his club after scans confirmed a tear of the left proximal rectus femoris tendon.
“I felt a very strong pain in the upper part of my thigh. It still hurts. It is a shame but football is like that,” said Modric after the game.
A statement on Real Madrid’s website confirmed the tear, although did not put a timeframe on his return. But Modric is not likely to play again until at least February, meaning he would also miss the World Club Cup in Morocco and a potential last-16 tie in the Champions League
